Eligibility
The first step to voting this year is to register to vote.  Click here to register: New Jersey Voter Registration. The registration deadline to vote in the next election is October 13, 2026.

To register in New Jersey, you must be:

  • A United States citizen
  • At least 17 years old but cannot vote until reaching the age of 18, except that you may vote in a primary election if you are 17 and will be 18 at the time of the following general election.
  • A resident of the county for 30 days before the election
  • A person not serving a sentence of incarceration as the result of a conviction of any indictable offense under the laws of this or another state or of the United States.

The registrant must complete a Voter Registration Application and/or Party Affiliation Form. Mail or deliver the Voter Registration Application and/or Party Affiliation Form to the County Commissioner of Registration or Superintendent of Elections for your county.

To register online, you will need your date of birth and one of the following forms of identification

  • A current and valid Driver’s License or a non-driver Identification Card (ID card) issued by the New Jersey Motor Vehicle Commission (MVC)
    Your information will be provided to the MVC to validate identification, and to retrieve a copy of your digitized signature.

  • A Social Security number
    To use your social security number, you must have the ability to sign on-screen or upload your signature to complete the registration process. If you are unable to provide a digital signature, you can not register online. Click here to download the voter registration application for your county.

October 13: Mandated Evening Voter Registration Available for General Election in Offices of County Commissioners of Registration
October 21: Mailing of Sample Ballots for General Election
October 24 – November 1: Early Voting Period: Find your Polling Place. Early Voting: October 24th to November 1st. Hours: Monday through Saturday 10:00 am to 8:00 pm and Sundays 10:00 am to 6:00 pm
October 27: Deadline to apply for a Mail-In Ballot by Mail for General Election
October 30: Deadline for Application to Receive General Election Mail-In Ballots by Electronic Means for Qualified Overseas Civilian and Military Voters
November 2 – by 3:00 p.m. Deadline for In-Person Mail-In Ballot Applications for General Election
November 3: General Election Day: Find your Polling Place
November 3: Deadline for Post Office Receipt of Mail-In Ballots from the General Election
November 3 – by 8:00 p.m Deadline for In-Person Submission of General Election Mail-In Ballots to County Boards of Election and to Authorized Ballot Drop Boxes

In-person voting
VOTE EARLY! You never know if you might be sick or something unexpected will come up on election day.
If you are a first-time voter who registered by mail or if you are voting at a new polling location, you might need to provide identification at the polls. 

Mail-in ballots
If possible, put your ballot in one of New Jersey’s secure ballot drop boxes.
If using USPS, mail your ballot at least 10 days before election day.

Be Prepared if the SAVE America Act is passed
Every American, including people who have been registered for decades, would need to appear in person at an election office with qualifying documents.

  • Document requirements –  (one of the following) a valid U.S. passport or passport card, a certified birth certificate paired with a photo ID, a naturalization certificate, or a Consular Report of Birth Abroad. If your name does not match across those documents, additional paperwork such as a marriage certificate would also be required.  

PENNSYLVANIA

To register in Pennsylvania you will need your date of birth and either your PA driver’s license or PennDOT ID available to reference as you complete the application. You must be:

  • A citizen of the United States for at least one month before the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
  • A resident of Pennsylvania and the election district in which you want to register and vote for at least 30 days before the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
  • At least 18 years old on or before the day of the next primary, special, municipal, or general election.
  • A person not serving a sentence of incarceration as the result of a conviction of any indictable offense under the laws of this or another state or of the United States.

You must register to vote where you actually live—your residential address. Owning property or a business in a county does not necessarily make you a resident of that county.
If you’ve recently moved, you can register or update your voter registration online.

Dates and Deadlines
October 19: Last day to REGISTER to vote in the November election
October 27: Last day to apply for a mail-in or civilian absentee ballot
November 3: Election Day: Polls are open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. 
Last day for County Boards of Elections to receive voted mail-in and civilian absentee ballots (must be received by 8:00 P.M.)
