ILNH FYI

Contributed by Deb Kline.

There is a TON of stuff happening over the next couple months for ILNH volunteer involvement! Here’s the schedule –  plan to join as many events as you can.

ILNH formed around a collection of issues we were (and still are) concerned about. They include healthcare, women’s rights, civil rights, securing the vote, getting out the vote, environment, ending gun violence and more. On their surface, each of these seem like no-brainers for progressives but, without legislative backing, they remain words on a sign or topics of conversation that go nowhere. The place where ideals become policy is in the state budget. If it’s not supported in the budget, it’s not going to happen. Grassroots passion and commitment can go much further if we understand the levers that move policy. This Springboard information session will help us bring our efforts to the next level.  [This was posted by Cindi on FB. ov]

  • April 25: Green Amendment Postcard Party

New Jersey Assemblyman Tim Eustace, Maya van Rossum, the Delaware Riverkeeper, Assemblywoman Pinkin and Assemblywoman Sumpter, announced new legislation that, if passed, would provide the people of New Jersey with a constitutional right to a healthy environment. The proposed provision identifies the State as trustee of public natural resources including the water, air, flora, fauna and the climate, and ensures an obligation by government officials to conserve and maintain these resources for the benefit of present and future generations. Including the proposed language in the New Jersey ensures that the right to clean water, clean air and a healthy environment will be protected as firmly as other essential rights are protected, like the right to free speech, freedom of religion and private property rights.
